State sponsored visa pathways

If you are a prospective skilled migrant who wishes to settle in Tasmania, the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts can sponsor your visa application through the skilled sponsored visa and skilled regional sponsored visa. State sponsorship applications have been given priority processing from Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC).

To help you choose the visa option that is most appropriate for you, select one of the following options:


I am outside Australia

You will be applying for an offshore visa – offshore visa applicants reside outside of Australia. An offshore visa can only be granted when the applicant is outside Australia.

I am inside Australia as a former overseas student

You will be applying for an onshore visa – onshore visa applicants are usually temporarily residing in Australia. An applicant usually needs to currently hold a qualifying visa at the time they make the application for an onshore visa. An onshore visa can only be granted when the applicant is in Australia.

I am inside Australia as a working holiday maker or occupational trainee

You will be applying for an onshore visa – onshore visa applicants are usually temporarily residing in Australia. An applicant usually needs to currently hold a qualifying visa at the time they make the application for an onshore visa. An onshore visa can only be granted when the applicant is in Australia.

You may be eligible for certain skilled visas. If you are currently working in Australia on a temporary visa and have an ongoing job offer in Tasmania, please contact us.
