Richard Lynch - Managing Director, Institute of Mine Seismology
We are a company that moved here from South Africa. We monitor earthquakes generated by mining and we do this kind of work for mines around the world. We operate in a total of 32 countries and we employ approximately 20 highly skilled staff. We can operate successfully in Tasmania because of the excellent internet connections and it is easy to get good international and national flights.
Our international employees love the fact that housing is affordable here. We've got the advantages of a big city with a lot of cultural activities including food and arts festivals and the famous Museum of Old and New Art, MONA. The city is small enough that you can avoid traffic jams but it has all the infrastructure expected in an Australian capital city. Staff really enjoy living in a safe and pristine environment.
Mr Yu - Owner of Waratah on York Hotel Launceston
Launceston is a beautiful and peaceful city, my business here is a solid investment. There's a substantial increase of visitors in the past few years.
Apart from interstate visitors, there has been a considerable growth of tourists from Germany, UK, China and Hong Kong. Thus, sales turnover from investing in the Waratah Hotel is very strong.
Running a design studio here in Tasmania is fantastic. I can communicate and transfer files over the internet very fast.
What we love about Tasmania is the people, they are very friendly and it is very safe here. We love the art galleries and the cultural activities. Tasmania has plenty of wonderful things to offer and we have an excellent work life balance. We live close to the beach and we don't have to worry about traffic or pollution.
Since we have moved here to Tasmania we still maintain our clients in Singapore, Manila and the United States. Absolutely I encourage people to come to Tasmanian and try living here. We see opportunities for us to achieve our goals business wise and we see a great future for us and right now we are just having a great time.
