On-arrival registration


Welcome to Tasmania! We are really pleased to have you here!

If you have just arrived in Tasmania you must register your arrival to Tasmania to validate your obligation and commitment. Registration of your arrival also enables Migration Tasmania to keep you up to date on information, news, events and services available to you to assist you in your settlement.

Please register your arrival in Tasmania, the grant of your visa by Home Affairs or of any changes to your circumstances by sending an email to Migration Tasmania and provide the following information:

  • nomination application number (SM–000000-000000)
  • main applicant name (full name)
  • a copy of your visa grant notice.

Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania (MRC Tas)

The MRC Tas provides services to assist migrants with their employment. You can also volunteer for them and participate in various activities and events. MRC can be a good platform for you to network with other people. To learn more about their services, please visit their website.

Welcome Cultural Services

Welcome is a not-for-profit community organisation that facilitates the settlement of migrants into North and North-West Tasmania. MRC assists migrants seeking advice for eligible services. Check out their website for available settlement services.

Multicultural Council of Tasmania (MCOT)

Multicultural Council of Tasmania is a peak body for migrants in Tasmania. They work for the interest of international students, migrants and multicultural organisations. You can be a part of MCOT by becoming a member to receive regular updates on what is happening within multicultural communities in Tasmania. It is also a good platform for you to connect with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and to learn about their cultures.

Migrant Work Rights Hub Tasmania

For Workers (visa holders)

Unions Tasmania’s Migrant Work Rights Hub Tasmania supports people on temporary visas to understand their workplace rights and get help if something is not right at work. If you are underpaid, treated unfairly, pressured because of your visa, or feel unsafe at work, the Hub can help you understand your options and report exploitation safely. The Hub also explains the new laws that protect migrant workers who have experienced workplace exploitation, including the Workplace Justice Visa. The Hub can also provide free referrals to specialist immigration lawyers if you are facing unfair or unsafe work and are worried about your visa.

For Employers and Small Businesses

The Migrant Work Rights Hub Tasmania supports employers and small businesses to create fair, lawful and safe workplaces when employing workers on temporary visas.

The Hub provides information and resources to help employers understand their obligations under Australian workplace and migration laws, including the recent changes introduced under the Migration Amendment (Strengthening Employer Compliance) Act 2024. These resources are designed to help employers stay compliant, reduce risk, and build fair and transparent workplaces.

Adult Migrant English
Program (AMEP)

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) offers free English classes and childcare to eligible migrants. The program is funded by the Department of Home Affairs and is available to Tasmanian nominated skilled migrants and their families after their skilled visa is granted.

Studying in the AMEP provides opportunities to improve your English reading, writing, listening and speaking skills and knowledge about Australian culture and society while also developing work or further study pathways.

Migrant Talent Connector

Migrant Talent Connector (or MTConnector) is a member-based not-for-profit organisation that supports Tasmania's Skilled, Business, Student and Partner migrant communities to obtain meaningful employment and business information. Their tailored services take a holistic view of an individuals' skills, experience and personal attributes to effectively meet each persons' needs. Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross provides many services for newly arrived migrants as well as established migrants that might require special services, such as Emergency Relief, Bi-Cultural Health Program, Health in My Language or Connected Women Program.
