Our beautiful landscape and history

Tasmania is home to some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes and unspoilt wild places.

Our wilderness and five of our historic convict sites are listed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as worthy of World Heritage Listing in recognition of their outstanding natural or cultural importance to the common heritage of humanity.

Tasmania’s beauty continues to support a thriving tourism sector based around our natural and heritage assets.

Our strategic location and focus on quality

Tasmania has modern port facilities offering access to worldwide markets. Tasmania is the only Australian state free from major pests and diseases given our stringent biosecurity standards, earning us an international reputation for safe and high-quality produce.

Tasmania is also a key strategic Antarctic gateway and critical hub for Antarctic logistics, science, and research. Tasmania’s thriving science and research sector further increases Tasmania’s attractiveness as a test-bed location for entrepreneurship and innovation.

Our natural resources

Tasmania is internationally recognised for its attributes in quality and sustainability and leads Australia in renewable energy.

Tasmania is also known for its geological diversity and abundance of rich and high-grade mineral deposits, with many opportunities for the exploration, extraction, and downstream processing of mineral resources.

Tasmania’s agriculture sector benefits from the land’s rich soil supported by reliable rainfall and water supply from rivers and large-scale irrigation expansion.

Tasmania’s aquaculture sector has also expanded rapidly and is now one of the state’s major industries. Species farmed in Tasmania include salmonids, oysters, mussels, abalone, seahorses, and seaweeds
