Checklist for sponsoring a migrant worker


Here are some things to do before sponsoring a migrant worker, so you are fully informed on the requirements.

Have you identified the role and number of positions to be filled, and have a detailed job description?
Have you advertised  the role locally and nationally and been unsuccessful in finding an Australian worker?
Is the role / occupation on the Australian Skilled Occupation list?
Have you advertised widely enough to meet the Department of Home Affairs Labour Market Testing requirements?
Have you received applications from overseas applicants or migrants in Australia who are suitable for the role?
Have you considered the costs associated with applying to be a sponsor, nominating a skilled migrant, and the Skilling Australians Fund levy?
Are you prepared to meet the annual salary requirements? Note: the salary cannot be less than the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
Are you aware of the minimum employment standards and obligations you must meet for a sponsored worker?
Are you prepared to support the skilled migrant with any necessary relocation and settlement assistance?
Are you aware of the timeframes in processing and issuing visas?
