Philipp Stratemann, Chef De Partie, Freycinet Lodge

“As a chef, Tasmania gives me the opportunity to work with some of the best and freshest ingredients anywhere in the world. The ever-growing number of specialty producers, smallholders and winemakers speak to the richness of this beautiful state.”

Originally from Germany, Philipp’s journey in Australia started as a backpacker in 2013. He moved to Tasmania from Western Australia in 2017 with his wife Dian.

Philipp describes himself as a person driven by curiosity and desire. He moved to Tasmania not only for the beautiful landscape and nature, but also because of the abundance of farmers and producers. Philipp is fascinated by the deep connection Tasmanian producers have with their produce.

Philipp is currently working as a Chef De Partie at Freycinet Lodge on Tasmania’s east coast. He studied a Diploma of Hospitality Management at TasTAFE, not only to become a qualified chef but to provide a memorable experience for clients by preparing meals from the unique Tasmanian produce that drew him to the state.

Philipp likes the natural beauty of Tasmania and wants to live close to nature. He and his wife have found a new home in Tasmania and they are now welcoming migrants to experience the beauty and lifestyle of Tasmania.

“If you are thinking about moving to Tasmania, just do it. If possible in your profession, try to move to the ‘countryside’ of Tasmania where you are never far away from the island's major cities – here you can enjoy the undisturbed beauty of this incredible island.”
