Applying for Tasmanian state nomination and applying for a visa are two separate processes.
The Tasmanian Government assesses your application for state nomination and the Department of Home Affairs assesses your visa application.
You must first create an Expression of Interest (EOI) in the Department of Home Affairs SkillSelect system. This will tell you if you meet the basic eligibility requirements for a skilled migration visa.
After creating your EOI, you can register your interest in nomination from the Tasmanian Government on the Migration Tasmania Gateway. The most competitive candidates will then be invited to apply for Tasmanian nomination.
You can find more detail about the registration, nomination and visa application process below.
The Tasmanian Government is not permitted to provide migration advice concerning visa options. Only registered migration agents or lawyers can provide migration advice specific to your individual circumstances. A complete list of migration agents can be found at: www.mara.gov.au.
You can find a registered lawyer through the website of your local state or territory Law Society or Bar Association.
The process
To apply for a subclass 190 visa you first need state or territory nomination. Migration Tasmania assesses the state nomination, and the Department of Home Affairs assesses the visa application.
You must first meet the visa eligibility requirements set by the Department of Home Affairs.
You must have:
- not yet turned 45 years of age
- nominated an occupation on the relevant list of eligible skilled occupations
- a valid and positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation
- at least ‘Competent’ English language proficiency
- at least 65 points on the Department of Home Affairs points test.
You must then meet the minimum requirements for Tasmanian nomination.
There are different nomination pathways and each has different requirements. Y
The Eligibility Checker is currently undergoing maintenance and you are not able to use it at this time.
Migration Tasmania appreciates your patience whilst this occurs.
Register an Expression of Interest (EOI) with the Department of Home Affairs through SkillSelect.
The EOI is not a visa or nomination application and is only an indication that you would like to be considered for a skilled visa. You cannot be nominated without an EOI that lists Tasmania as your state of interest. Find out more about EOIs and SkillSelect.
Lodge your Registration of Interest (ROI) with the Migration Tasmania Application Gateway. Based on the information you provide, the Gateway will tell you if you are eligible for Tasmanian nomination. It will then automatically rank you in comparison to other eligible candidates. The most competitive applicants will be invited to lodge an application for nomination. Registration is free and valid for six months. If you are not selected to lodge a nomination application within six months, your ROI will automatically lapse and an email will be sent to you. If you are given a Gold Pass you will be able to lodge an application for nomination immediately. If you are given a Green Pass you will not be able to lodge an application straight away, but will be invited to apply for nomination in the next six months, depending upon the number of nomination places remaining for the program year. If you are given an Orange Pass you may be invited to apply for nomination within the next 6 months, depending upon the volume of interest we have received and how many of the priority attributes you have. Candidates who have at least one of the Orange-Plus priority attributes are a high priority for nomination and will be the first candidates with an Orange Pass to be invited to apply for nomination. If you are not invited to apply within 6 months your registration will expire and you will need to complete a new registration in the Gateway to be considered for a nomination invitation. If you are given a Red Pass you do not meet our minimum nomination requirements and will not be able to apply for nomination. |
If you have been invited to apply for nomination, ensure you have prepared all of the required supporting documents for your selected pathway before you apply. Also assemble all the documents you will need to lodge a visa application with the Department of Home Affairs if you are nominated.
Your invitation is valid for 28 days. There is a non-refundable fee of $370 (plus 10% GST) to apply for nomination.
If you lodge an application and you are not eligible, or the claims in your Registration of Interest were incorrect or not supported by evidence, it will not be approved.
Unsuccessful Subclass 190 applications may also be considered for Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa nomination.
If you would like this to occur, you must include Subclass 491 as an option on your SkillSelect Expression of Interest (EOI). Unsuccessful Subclass 190 applicants who fail to include both options will not be supported for visa nomination.
Multiple nominations are not permitted.
Nominees who have applied for a subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa will not be nominated for subclass 190 in the future. The subclass 491 visa provides a pathway to permanent residency through the Subclass 191 visa.
If you are nominated, Migration Tasmania will advise you by email.
You will then receive an invitation to apply for your visa through SkillSelect. This invitation is valid for 60 days.
If you are granted a visa, ensure that you follow the undertakings you agreed to when nominated by the Tasmanian Government.
This includes updating your contact details, completing periodic surveys and fulfilling your commitment to live and work in Tasmania for at least two years.
