Amber Lo-Thiap-Hing, Senior Accountant, PFK Hobart

“Moving to Tasmania has opened new doors for me in terms of career opportunities and new friendships. Nothing in this world can beat its clean air, natural scenery and cultural scene.”

Born and raised in Mauritius, Amber Lo-Thiap-Hing started her Australian journey in Melbourne, completing an undergraduate degree. On finishing her studies in Australia’s second largest city, Amber was drawn to Tasmania’s more relaxed lifestyle and relocated to embark on her new career.

Through her skills and experience, Amber’s move to the island state saw her join one of the most reputable accounting firms in Australia. She quickly acquired a position as an accountant with PKF in Hobart.

Moving to Tasmania on her own, Amber received a welcoming reception on arrival and swiftly immersed herself in local community activities. She gained a great sense of purpose and fulfilment through her various volunteer roles.

“Within the first few days in Hobart I quickly noticed how safe and calm the neighborhood is and how friendly and welcoming Tasmanian residents are – it is a stark comparison to Melbourne.”

Amber enjoys the close proximity of everything in Tasmania and enjoys hiking, going for scenic walks and exploring the many sandy beaches. She enjoys the shorter commute times and not having to face the overcrowded streets, traffic congestion and pollution of the bigger cities.

“Tasmania is a timeless place – its natural wonders and beautiful world heritage areas, national parks and reserves are like no other, and I consider myself very lucky to be able to live here in Tasmania.”
